What is the true value of a cancer therapy? 🔬 The recently published Green Paper by FOPI - Die forschenden Pharmaunternehmen comes at an important moment. As Austria’s healthcare system faces growing pressure from demographic change and budget constraints, discussions about healthcare spending are necessary, including in oncology. The value of cancer care medicines cannot be measured by costs alone. The value of oncology innovation lies in its impact on patients: helping people live longer, live better and achieve better treatment outcomes. At the same time, innovation can contribute to a more sustainable healthcare system by reducing the burden of disease and enabling more effective use of healthcare resources. To fully understand this true value, we need both clinical trial data and real-world evidence. The Green Paper highlights that much of the necessary data already exists in Austria - now we need to unlock its full potential.
