A recent DOJ case involving the *reuse* of single-use endoscopic devices raises an important question for healthcare leaders. The significant question isn't whether an endoscopy program can be performed. The question is whether it can be managed. Many hospitals are not in a position to manage these programs internally. Every endoscopy program carries clinical, operational, and regulatory responsibility. "Do we have the expertise, oversight, and systems to manage this program at the highest standard?" Because patient safety depends on more than the procedure—it depends on the program behind it.
