The โ‚ฌ1 million award places the newly created prize at the same financial level as the Planeta Prize, which is awarded to unpublished fiction manuscripts. The jury, chaired by Rosa Montero, announced the decision at a ceremony held at the Museu Marรญtim de Barcelona. Finalists Enrique Vila-Matas, Hรฉctor Abad Faciolince and Nona Fernรกndez each received โ‚ฌ30,000. The jury highlighted Schweblinโ€™s ability to โ€œdepict new worldsโ€ and move along โ€œthe boundary between the possible and the impossibleโ€ with a style of โ€œdisturbing beauty.โ€ Schweblin thanked her family and acknowledged her Spanish and Argentine editors as well as her literary agent, describing the recognition as unusual for short story writers in a prize landscape largely focused on novels. Maurici Lucena, CEO of Aena, said the prize reflects the companyโ€™s commitment to cultural patronage, while noting mixed reactions since its announcement. The organization will also invest more than โ‚ฌ1 million in acquiring copies of the finalistsโ€™ works, as questions remain regarding the prizeโ€™s future continuity and structure. https://lnkd.in/dJ-9kjvg #Publishing #Literature #Books #Awards #Spain #Argentina #SamantaSchweblin #LiteraryPrizes #HispanicLiterature #BookIndustry #CulturalPolicy #SeixBarral
