[𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓] 𝐋𝐞ș𝐮 𝐃𝐚𝐦 (𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐚): 𝐮𝐩𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 Leșu Dam is a 60 m high concrete face rockfill dam located in north-western Romania, in Bihor County. Originally built between 1969 and 1973, the dam was designed for water supply to the city of Oradea and for flood regulation of the Iad Valley River. With ageing, seepage and deterioration of the concrete face, a rehabilitation program was implemented to restore watertightness of the upstream face and long-term performance of the structure. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐚 𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? After decades of operation, the upstream concrete face presented cracks, joint deterioration and seepage due to environmental exposure and structural ageing. A flexible PVC geomembrane system was selected to ensure watertightness independently from the existing structure and accommodate deformations and structural movements 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 ✅ Waterproofed surface: ~12,100 m² ✅ Waterproofing liner: SIBELON® CNT 3750 geocomposite (PVC-P geomembrane + nonwoven geotextile) ✅ Drainage geocomposite on full face[VG1]  ✅ Protection layer: 2000 g/m2 nonwoven geotextile ✅ anchorage: stainless-steel tensioning profiles and watertight stainless-steel perimeter seal ✅ Optical Fibre Cable leakage detection system: ~2,000 m installed ✅ Function: real-time monitoring (OTDR) for early leak localization and predictive maintenance 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 ✅ Direct installation on existing concrete face after localized repairs ✅ Drained and ventilated system to control seepage[VG2]  ✅ Installation rate up to 300–400 m²/day 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 ☝ Restores watertightness without replacing the original concrete face ☝ Adapts to cracks, joints opening and differential movements ☝ Reduces seepage ☝ Extends service life with limited intervention on the structure At Carpi Tech a flexible liner turns an ageing concrete face into a controlled, monitorable facing system. #CarpiTech #Geomembrane #DamRehabilitation #WaterInfrastructure #Hydropower #Engineering #DamSafety #SIBELON #Infrastructure #WaterManagement
