“We shouldn’t be talking about vehicle perception exactly, but rather vehicle cognition,” Monica Lopez, PhD explained. “We have arrived at an amazing point in AI history, where we can and should close the gap between engineering, policymaking, and cognitive science.” As a scientist and an artist, Dr. López-González blends the disciplines of both to address the core challenges facing #autonomousvehicles. One of those challenges is creating a machine vision system that can think as well as a human can, particularly when the situation calls for improvisation.
