🩺 More people than ever are without a family doctor in Portugal. Portugal continues to face a growing shortage of family doctors, leaving many people without timely access to primary care. While efforts are underway to recruit more clinicians, the gap between demand and capacity remains significant. This raises an important question: Can we solve a healthcare access problem by adding more doctors alone? The reality is that healthcare systems need to become more proactive, not just larger. Digital health solutions such as Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and AI-supported care won't replace family doctors. But they can help extend their reach. Imagine a model where: ✔️ Chronic patients are monitored continuously from home. ✔️ Early signs of deterioration are detected before they become emergencies. ✔️ Routine follow-ups are supported remotely, allowing clinicians to focus on patients who need them most. ✔️ Patients remain connected to their care teams between appointments. The future of primary care isn't about replacing human expertise. It's about giving clinicians the right tools to care for more patients, more effectively. As Portugal continues to address its family doctor shortage, perhaps the conversation should shift from "How do we find more doctors?" to "How do we enable every doctor to care for more patients, without compromising quality?" That's where digital health has the opportunity to make a lasting impact. 🙂 At CareTechr, we are open to collaborating with healthcare organizations and industry partners in Portugal and Brazil to help shape the future of proactive, connected care.
