If your confidence has dropped since working under your current manager, that’s not a personal flaw. It’s often a predictable response to unstable leadership. Signs your boss is quietly eroding your confidence: They give vague instructions, then act surprised when you don’t deliver what they wanted. I thought you’d know what I meant becomes a recurring theme. Your ideas get dismissed in the moment, then presented as theirs later. You start to doubt whether your contributions matter. They praise you privately but stay silent when you need public backing. When you’re challenged in meetings, they don’t defend work they approved. Standards shift without explanation. What was “excellent” last month is barely acceptable now. You’re always chasing a moving target. ⸻ If this sounds familiar, the issue isn’t your capability. Clarity builds confidence. Confusion erodes it. When managers give unclear direction then blame you for misunderstanding, or when expectations change without communication, your confidence drops because you can’t figure out what success looks like. Document everything, get instructions in writing, and start looking for leadership that builds people up instead of wearing them down. #Leadership #WorkplaceCulture #ToxicWorkplace #CareerAdvice #Management
