80% of people who accept a counteroffer leave within 6 months. 9 out of 10 are gone within a year. And 50% are back on the job market in just 2 months. Yet, counteroffers remain one of the toughest career decisions professionals face. It usually starts the same way: You get a new job offer. You resign. Then suddenly, your current employer wants to keep you. You get more money, a more sophisticated title, and promises that things will be different. So, should you accept it? It depends on why you wanted to leave in the first place. If salary was the main issue and the counteroffer genuinely addresses it, it may be worth considering. But if you were leaving because of limited growth, poor culture, a difficult manager, or feeling undervalued, a pay rise may not solve the real problem. Before making a decision, ask yourself: If they knew my value all along, why did it take a resignation letter for them to show it? A counteroffer can change your compensation. It doesn't always change your experience. Choose the option that addresses the reason you started looking elsewhere in the first place. #Careers #Recruitment #CareerAdvice #JobSearch #CounterOffer
