Q and A with Talk World Group (TWG) member: Salar Malik, General Manager – Sustainability & Innovation, Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) Q: Please share your personal journey with us. After a distinguished military career, my corporate journey began with an Executive MBA from LUMS, where my passion for innovation and entrepreneurship truly took shape. This inclination led me to establish my own Alternate Energy company in 2019, focusing on solar and wind EPC solutions—an experience that has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. In 2020, I joined FFC, marking a significant shift from the public to the corporate sector. This move proved transformative. At FFC, I have been fortunate to work under exceptional mentors and peers, whose guidance, wisdom, and trust have played a pivotal role in shaping my professional outlook and growth. Their leadership has not only refined my capabilities but also instilled in me a deeper sense of purpose and responsibility. Finally, none of this journey would have been possible without the unwavering support of my family. Their encouragement gave me the confidence to navigate this transition and continue striving for impact. Q: Please explain the current work you do and the impact of your work. As General Manager Sustainability & Innovation, I have the privilege of leading a dual-hatted role that allows me to work across two highly impactful and exciting domains. Sustainability extends far beyond internal efficiencies—its influence spans environmental stewardship, resource optimization, and national priorities such as climate resilience and responsible growth. While the Innovation side of my role enables us to reimagine the future of FFC and Pakistan’s agriculture landscape, driving new ideas and solutions that strengthen productivity and food security. Together, these two pillars create a powerful platform to contribute not just to organizational excellence, but to Pakistan's long-term sustainable development and food security. Q: Please explain one thing you consistently did that led to your successful career. One key principle that has shaped my career is an early realization that empowered teams can solve even the most complex challenges. I have always focused on building people—helping them recognize their own potential and creating an environment where they feel confident to take ownership. Once that confidence is established, performance naturally follows and often exceeds expectations. In that sense, I attribute my success not so much to what I have done individually, but to what my teams have achieved collectively. Their dedication, capability, and growth have been the true drivers of meaningful impact in every role I’ve held. ** Talk World Group (TWG) is a select group of thought leaders.
