A clear and consistent message has emerged from communities across Victoria on the future of glass recycling. A statewide survey of nearly 25,000 residents across 35 councils found: • 83% oppose the introduction of a glass-only kerbside bin • 91% support expanding the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) to include wine and spirit bottles In Cardinia Shire, local sentiment is even stronger: • 87% oppose a fourth bin • 93% support expanding CDS These results reinforce a shared preference for simpler, more practical and cost-effective solutions, rather than introducing additional kerbside services. We're proud to be working alongside 35 councils in a coordinated advocacy effort, calling for a more effective approach to glass recycling. Mandated changes should reflect both community sentiment and provide evidence of better outcomes for the circular economy. With significant costs associated with introducing a fourth bin, and strong support for expanding CDS, it’s important that future decisions are guided by clear evidence and community input. This advocacy is ongoing so keep an eye out for next steps and opportunities to get involved. Community voices will play a critical role in shaping the future of recycling in Victoria.
