I’m incredibly proud to share that my father-in-law, Professor Iain Hutchison, has been awarded an OBE in King Charles III’s Birthday Honours, recognised for his outstanding services to preventing and treating facial cancers. Iain Hutchison is a world-leading oral and maxillofacial surgeon who treats diseases, deformity, and injuries affecting the most socially vital part of our bodies, the face. But beyond his skill in the operating theatre, he is a remarkable innovator, researcher, and educator. In 1999, he founded Saving Faces - The Facial Surgery Research Foundation, a charity dedicated to improving outcomes through research and education. Under his leadership, Saving Faces published the groundbreaking SEND study, the first nationwide randomised surgical trial in early mouth cancer. This landmark research resolved a long-standing clinical uncertainty, was incorporated into Cochrane reviews, and changed the international standard of care. It is now estimated to save lives and influence the treatment of around 30,000 mouth cancer patients worldwide each year. Beyond the science, Iain Hutchison has always understood that healing a face is as much an emotional journey as a physical one. To bridge the gap between medicine and humanity, he created the Saving Faces Art Project. This profound exhibition charts the lives of facial surgery patients, helping them process their trauma while challenging public stigmas. The paintings have since toured the world, and have been seen by over 2 million people. Whether he is leading international clinical trials, lecturing globally, or inspiring the next generation of doctors in schools and universities, Iain’s dedication is boundless. I'd implore anyone interested to watch his wonderful TED talk 'Saving faces: A facial surgeon's craft': https://lnkd.in/e2Qqn_2Q Huge congratulations, Iain Hutchison, on a thoroughly deserved OBE.  #KingHonours #OBE #MaxillofacialSurgery #CancerResearch #MedicalInnovation #SavingFaces #HealthcareHeroes University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Barts Health NHS Trust
