Our India country lead Sathyanantham M was on the ground in Alang for The Sustainable Shipping Initiative's New Horizons workshop, and it's a reminder of why showing up matters. The SSI's latest report, "Alang in Transition: From Compliance to Capability," paints an honest picture. Some real progress has been made, but compliance across the cluster is uneven, and the same HKC designation can mean very different things for the workers inside those yards. Safe and responsible recycling doesn't scale overnight. It scales over time, and that time is as important as ever. There's still a long way to go on transparency, supply chain accountability, and making sure that continued progress at leading facilities becomes the norm, not the exception.
