Norwegian owners, June 30 is around the corner; is your Transparency Act statement ready? The deadline for the annual statement under the Transparency Act (Åpenhetsloven) is fast approaching. By now, many Norwegian shipowners and maritime companies have been through this process a few times. But even in its third year, we find that many still struggle to move beyond a tick-box exercise towards the kind of due diligence that actually gives you visibility into what's happening at the yards and further down your supply chain. That's where we can help. At Calmocean, we conduct ESG yard audits and advisory work across the upstream and downstream parts of the maritime supply chain. What we see on the ground, at shipyards, among equipment suppliers, in subcontractor networks, is that real transparency doesn't come from office assessments alone, but from the levels of in depth research and access we have achieved with our ESG offerings. For Norwegian maritime companies, this work has been driven by Åpenhetsloven. But the landscape is shifting. The EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) is currently being transposed into national law across member states, with the first obligations expected from 2027–2028. The directive places significant emphasis on supply chain due diligence, and for the maritime sector specifically, this will raise the bar across Europe. Norway has been ahead of the curve here. The processes and capabilities that Norwegian companies have built up over the past few years; mapping suppliers, assessing yard conditions, responding to information requests, are exactly what the rest of the European maritime industry will need to put in place. The experience we've gained working with Norwegian customers is directly relevant to the challenges that shipowners and operators across the continent are about to face. If you're working on your 2026 statement and want to make sure it reflects genuine due diligence rather than just compliance on paper, get in touch. And if you're a European maritime company starting to think about what CSDDD will mean for your operations — the lessons from Norway are a good place to start. #Åpenhetsloven #TransparencyAct #CSDDD #SupplyChainDueDiligence #CircularEconomy #ESG #Calmocean #Norway
