Working under the supervision of forestry staff, you'll support forest health and wildfire resilience efforts through fuels reduction, prescribed fire operations, forest stewardship projects, and field crew leadership. In this role, you'll: ✔️ Help plan and implement forest, range, and watershed protection projects ✔️ Support fuels reduction and wildfire resilience initiatives ✔️ Participate in thinning, tree felling, and prescribed fire operations ✔️ Lead and oversee Forest Stewardship Crew members in the field ✔️ Coordinate with contractors and partner crews to meet project goals ✔️ Assist with managing vegetation treatment projects ✔️ Support the stewardship and protection of California's natural resources ✔️ Work alongside forestry professionals to improve forest health ✔️ Travel throughout multiple State Park units within the district ✔️ Gain valuable experience in forestry, fire management, and natural resource conservation Location: Calaveras Big Trees State Park Position: Forestry Assistant II (Permanent Intermittent) Salary: $31.43 - $44.75 per hour Final Filing Date: 6/30/2026 Additional Details: • Permanent Intermittent position that may work up to 1,500 hours per calendar year • Position is not eligible for telework • Frequent hiking on steep terrain while carrying field equipment • Work performed in varying weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures • May be exposed to fire operations, dirt, dust, fumes, loud noises, and other outdoor environmental conditions Help strengthen California's forests, support wildfire resilience efforts, and protect the natural resources that make our State Parks extraordinary!
