New research from UCSF suggests the potential of CAR-T cell therapy as a possible new approach for HIV treatment. In an early-stage CIRM-funded clinical trial led by Dr. Steve Deeks, a single dose of engineered immune cells strongly suppressed HIV in two patients for extended periods without their usual medicines. Early findings offer an encouraging look at how stem cells may help advance the search for a longer-lasting HIV treatment.
