Yesterday's 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Mendocino County was a reminder of the importance of early detection - a problem that Cal Poly Humboldt researchers are tackling head on. With the help of sledgehammers and fiber optic lines, students and faculty are collaborating with state and local partners in the hopes of creating early earthquake monitoring and detection systems that can help communities more quickly receive warnings of seismic events. #CalPolyHumboldt
