𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞 :: 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟮𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 '𝟮𝟲. Wieland Hoban is a Frankfurt-based Jewish composer and activist whom Nathan Thrall, winner of the Pulitzer Prize called "a candle in the darkness of German discourse on Israel/Palestine.” He has been travelling the globe rallying opposition to the Gaza genocide since it began in October 2023. The book, 'Germany's Jewish Problem: Genocides Past and Present' is a collection of his essays exploring the 'cultural neuroses and political cynicism' that drives Germany's support of Israel's crimes in Palestine. As Leah Levane put it in her review of the book, "Germany is learning all the wrong lessons from the horrors of the Nazi era and the Holocaust of six million European Jews and many million others." It has chosen to make support for Israel its “Staatsräson” (i.e. its fundamental, non-negotiable commitment for Germany’s survival as a nation). This has far-reaching and dangerous implications for those standing for the rights of Palestinians in many countries, including anti-Zionist Jews in the UK and warrants an urgent conversation.
