🌟 Advocate of the Week: Massive Attack 🌟 This week's Advocate is the iconic British band Massive Attack for using their platform to amplify Palestinian voices when it matters most. At a music festival in Germany and in Spain, the band, famous for its groundbreaking triphop music, gave the stage to Arab Barghouti, son of jailed Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti - often called the "Palestinian Mandela." Before tens of thousands, Arab called for his father's release: "My father represents something Israel cannot imprison: hope." The urgency for the release is real. Marwan Barghouti, 67, has served over two decades of multiple life sentences. Recently, his lawyers reported a "clear pattern of escalating abuse", including three brutal attacks by prison guards in weeks, one involving a guard dog. Medical neglect has raised fears he may die in captivity unless the world acts. Barghouti can be key to Palestinian unity and peace. Polls show he would comfortably win a presidential election over both Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas figures. From his prison cell, he drafted the "Prisoners' Document," a unifying platform for a state within the 1967 borders. His release could bridge the rift between West Bank and Gaza and his continued imprisonment ensures fragmentation that blocks a two-state solution. Nelson Mandela once agreed to observe his trial, saying: "What is happening to Barghouti is exactly the same as what happened to me." Massive Attack has long supported Palestine, forming a musician alliance last year with Brian Eno, Fontaines DC, and Kneecap, to protect artists targeted by pro-Israel legal campaigns for speaking out on Gaza. No artist, they say, should be "threatened into silence or career cancellation" for opposing genocide. πŸŽ™οΈ "Always on the right side of history”, said Arab Barghouti, thanking the band. Thank you Massive Attack for the solidarity and the courage to refuse silence. πŸ™ #AdvocateoftheWeek #FreeMarwanBarghouti #Palestine #MassiveAttack #HumanRights #MusicForJustice Credit video: Instagram @wearethepeace
