Pharmacies have always been subject to oversight by federal agencies, state Medicaid programs, Boards of Pharmacy, Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), Medicare Part D plans, Medicaid managed care organizations, DEA and law enforcement. However, what we are seeing now is different in degree. There has been an uptick in investigations, audits, payment reviews and program-integrity inquiries involving pharmacies.
