How much does majority rule shape political decision-making? Perhaps less than economic theory often assumes. Recent research by Prof. Dr. Philipp Doerrenberg and co-authors shows that in political decision-making, protecting minorities and preventing the worst possible outcome often matters more than maximizing benefits for the majority. Based on an anonymized behavioral experiment with politicians and citizens in Germany, the researchers uncover patterns in political decision-making that are often overlooked and challenge some common assumptions. One practical takeaway: Anyone seeking political support for a project should not only emphasize benefits for the majority but also offer solutions that prevent a worst-case scenario. 🔗 Read our latest blog article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYKRCij3 #MannheimInsights #politicaldecisions #majorityrule #decisionmaking #MannheimerForLife 📸 Oana Szekely
