Last week, participants of our LL.M. in Competition Law and Economics continued the Module “Competition Law and the Regulation of Network Industries,” led by Stefano Trento. The session explored how market power arises in both traditional network industries (such as gas and electricity) and in modern platform markets driven by network effects. Through key case studies, participants examined issues like access to essential infrastructure, pricing strategies, and market segmentation under Article 102 TFEU. The course also highlighted the role of EU liberalisation and regulation in addressing structural monopolies, as well as the growing importance of economic analysis in understanding multi-sided markets, including payment systems and digital platforms. By bridging legal and economic perspectives, the session provided valuable insights into how competition law adapts to complex and evolving market structures. 🙏 A sincere thank you to Stefano Trento for his insightful session! #CompetitionLaw #NetworkIndustries #BSC
