🌱 Biomass remains a key pillar of renewable heat supply With a share of 84% and 175 TWh, biomass was by far the most important renewable heat source in Germany once again in 2025. Solid biomass, predominantly wood, accounted for the largest share at 136 TWh. Overall, the energetic use of biomass in the heating sector increased by around 5% compared to the previous year. This resulted in savings of 34.8 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalents.
