From "The Gummy Bear Heist" to "An Ode to My Couch," original poems by Providence fifth graders took center stage at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School thanks to a creative partnership with Brown University's Department of Literary Arts. Throughout the spring semester, Brown students enrolled in Professor Eleni Sikelianos' Writers-in-the-Community course worked alongside fifth graders to explore poetry, creativity and self-expression. The residency culminated in a public reading and the publication of a class anthology featuring the students' original work. The program offered young writers an opportunity to develop their voices while building meaningful connections between Brown and the Providence community.
