BSL welcomes the likely acceptance of the federal government's capital gains tax and negative gearing reforms, long-overdue changes that mark an important step toward a fairer and more sustainable tax and transfer system. As BSL Executive Director Dr Travers McLeod said: "What hasn't been said enough in this debate is that these reforms are not just about fairness, they are about building a more predictable and sustainable revenue base. That revenue underpins the services Australians rely on every day, from healthcare and education to income support, housing and aged care." These reforms will ensure that income earned through investments is taxed more consistently with income earned through work.
