We are deeply saddened by the passing of Eugene Braunwald, MD—an extraordinary leader in cardiovascular medicine and academic research. Dr. Braunwald transformed the understanding and treatment of heart disease. Through decades of discovery—including the TIMI (Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction) trials—his work helped shape modern cardiology and improve care for patients worldwide. He was also a dedicated mentor, setting rigorous standards and inspiring generations of physicians and scientists whose work continues across Mass General Brigham and beyond. “His influence remains evident today in the strength of our cardiovascular programs and in the broader foundation of academic medicine across our system,” shared Anne Klibanski, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mass General Brigham. We extend our condolences to Dr. Braunwald’s family, colleagues, trainees, and all who were influenced by his life and work.
