New research suggests the shingles vaccine may do more than prevent shingles—it could also help reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia. “There is growing evidence that supports that shingles vaccination may reduce the risk of developing cognitive decline and dementia, whether by preventing shingles, by providing benefits to neuroimmune function, or both,” said Sharon Curhan, MD, an epidemiologist at Mass General Brigham.
