Brisbane-based architecture practice Richards & Spence are responsible for single-handedly changing the face of their home town with world-class retail, hospitality and civic architecture. Now, the power-couple behind this phenomenon, Ingrid Richards and Adrian Spence, have showcased their talent in residential architecture by revealing their own home, aptly named ‘La Scala’. The design highlights the use of light-coloured GB Masonry concrete blocks to channel the ruins of the ancient world into Brisbane’s inner city suburb of Bowen Hills, with a courtyard and pool given a central location amidst Mediterranean-style greenery. The building is also designed with longevity in mind, with the house echoing the characteristics of a public space rather than a typical home, allowing a dynamic structure that can be continually used into the future.
