High-level event today on offshore wind power collaboration between 🇩🇪 and 🇩🇰 – kicked off by German Ambassador Anke Meyer and hosted by former Minister of Energy Lykke Friis. Thank you for the chance to contribute 🙏🏼⚡ I highlighted that ~50% renewables will be the limit for today’s electricity grids – unless we rethink our approach. This is a unique chance for an integrated strategy that goes beyond offshore wind alone: 🔹 Smart energy systems – incentives for smart electrification where large industries are close to production hubs 🔹 New large demands – heating, industry, transport combined 🔹Change district heating supply include: large-scale thermal storage, use excess and renewable heat and most importantly scale large scale heat pumps to GW scales 🔹Next generation Infrastructure acceleration – PtX and hydrogen grids must be developed faster. Increase the mandated share of e-SAF faster. 🔹 Joint offshore hubs – like Bornholm–Germany, reducing curtailment, balancing supply, and spreading risk To succeed, we need strong market-based collaboration: - Coordinated build-out and joint tenders for cross-border offshore projects - Better market function with granular bidding zones (Yes - also internally in Germany) - Aligned standards for grid codes, connections, and HVDC And we should not forget ideas for joint innovation: - A pilot in floating offshore wind - Coordinated turbine scaling & supply chain strategy to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness - Upgraded ports and logistics as shared offshore hubs Together, Denmark and Germany can shape EU offshore regulation, TEN-E priorities, and global competitiveness – while building a meshed North Sea/Baltic Sea offshore grid combined with large-scale demand. At about the same time as the seminar Energinet committed to thier part of infrastructure for the Baltic Energy Island near Bornholm - just one of many new energy hubs in the pipeline.
