This 4-year project focuses on the numerical modeling of Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs), which are critical drivers of hazardous space weather and key indicators of solar eruptive processes. š¬ The Research Project Solar energetic particles are accelerated during massive solar eruptions and pose significant risks to technology and astronauts. In this role, you will: Simulate Acceleration: Use state-of-the-art numerical models to understand how SEPs are accelerated near the Sun. Model Transport: Analyze how these particles propagate through complex coronal magnetic structures and the heliosphere. Integrate Data: Combine advanced plasma physics simulations with observational constraints from modern spacecraft missions. HPC Utilization: Leverage high-performance computing facilities to run large-scale space-plasma models. š Candidate Profile Education: An M.Sc. degree (or nearing completion) in Physics, Astrophysics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Technical Skills: Interest in computational research and programming; experience in numerical methods or plasma physics is an advantage but not strictly required. Soft Skills: A strong command of English and a drive to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting. š Key Details & Benefits Duration: 4 years (initial 1-year contract, renewable based on progress). Salary: Follows the standard Belgian PhD scholarship scale. Start Date: Preferred 1 October 2026 (with some flexibility). Deadline: 13 May 2026. š© How to Apply Submit your application through the KU Leuven Job Site (Job ID: 60638099). Your application package must include: Curriculum Vitae. Motivation Letter (max 1 page). University Transcripts (including ECTS credits/grades). Reference Contacts for two professional/academic referees. For informal inquiries, contact Prof. dr.
