LANL develops and operates instrumentation for major initiatives, including NASA’s IMAP mission, alongside active national security space arrays. 🔬 Core Responsibilities Hardware Operations: Supporting the development, laboratory calibration, environmental testing, and operations of space plasma instruments and energetic neutral atom (ENA) imagers. Future Payloads: Contributing to the baseline design of instrumentation for future space missions. Scientific Research: Investigating heliospheric, magnetospheric, or ionospheric physics, solar wind-plasma interactions, or ENA telemetry. Data Analysis: Processing space-based measurements, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at conferences. 📋 Candidate Profile Education: A Ph.D. in Space Physics, Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, or a related field completed within the past five years. Clearance: Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance (typically requires U.S. citizenship). Note: U.S. citizenship is NOT a requirement to apply. Desired Assets: Laboratory experience with detectors, vacuum systems, or calibration facilities; experience with computational data analysis, modeling, or simulation. 📅 Location, Salary & Terms Location & Duration: Fully on-site in Los Alamos, NM. 2-year initial contract with a possible 3rd-year extension. Compensation: Minimum starting salary of $97,000, scaling upward with post-PhD experience. Strong candidates may eligible for prestigious Laboratory fellowships.
