The role can be appointed at the level of Doctoral Researcher, Project Researcher, or Research Assistant, depending on the candidate's current academic qualifications. The successful applicant will join the AIPAD project (Artificial Intelligence for Solar Energetic Particle Pitch-Angle Distributions), a multidisciplinary initiative funded by the Research Council of Finland. Led by Dr. Nina Dresing, the project is run in close collaboration with the Algorithmics and Computational Intelligence research group at the university's Department of Computing. šŸ”¬ The Research Framework: AIPAD Solar energetic particle (SEP) events triggered by explosive solar eruptions pose severe radiation hazards to technological infrastructure, GPS systems, and astronauts. A major puzzle in space weather physics is distinguishing the relative contributions of solar flares versus coronal shocks in accelerating these particles. The AIPAD project tackles this challenge by merging space physics with computer science: Data Analysis, Machine Learning Integration. šŸ“‹ Role Tiering & Candidate Requirements The position is highly flexible and accommodates candidates at different stages of their early research career: 1. Research Assistant 2. Project Researcher 3. Doctoral Researcher Fluency in English (matching the mandatory English proficiency criteria required by the University of Turku Graduate School). šŸ“… Location, Timeline & Terms Location: Turku, Finland (On-site working in Finland is required). Duration: 3 years, fixed-term. Application Window: Applications open 26 May 2026 and close 10 July 2026 at 16:00 (Europe/Helsinki time). šŸ“© How to Apply Candidates must submit their applications through the University of Turku's electronic recruitment portal before the July deadline. Prior to applying, international candidates are strongly encouraged to review the student information, language requirements, and application criteria detailed on the EXACTUS Doctoral Programme portal.
