Visiting with our teams today and I’m so proud of how they working to feed our communities with positivity. Over half the food in this country is typically consumed away from home - from restaurants or similar food service providers. Shifting all of this demand to grocers is creating an unbalanced and stressed supply chain. This leads to out of stocks and hoarding concerns. Restaurants, especially with digital channels facilitating contactless ordering and pick up, can be an effective method of getting food while maintaining social distance. Dr. Ian Williams, Chief of the Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes “There is no evidence out there that, so far [COVID-19], that it’s food borne-driven or food service-driven”.
