“One thing I realised was that because I didn’t have any experience in the UK, it was really hard to be trusted.” Despite his previous career as a marine engineer, after receiving sanctuary in the UK, Said found his lack of local work experience was a huge barrier to securing a job. Many forcibly displaced people who are building a new career from scratch face this challenge – alongside a lack of knowledge of the UK job market, unfamiliar recruitment practices, or having left behind their professional network. That’s why we’re pleased to be working with Procure Plus. Their support is helping to provide more refugees and sanctuary seekers with access to Breaking Barriers’ tailored employment guidance, skills development and routes into work. With the right support, Said not only now has a job and financial independence. He is laying down the foundations for his long-term goals in a new career in logistics. “I started as a warehouse operative. Every single month they give you something to improve on. And every single month I am improving... My dream is to become a Distribution Manager. Now I can see where I will be after three years... It feels good.” Read Said’s story: https://lnkd.in/enCxTSxi #RefugeeSupport #EmploymentSupport
