Fiji Sugar Corporation delays start of 2026 crushing season at two mills By ChiniMandi - June 15, 2026 The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has postponed the start of the 2026 sugar crushing season at its Rarawai and Labasa mills after determining that harvesting preparations were not yet sufficient to support operations. The decision was announced just days before crushing activities were scheduled to begin, FBC News reported. According to a public advisory issued by the Corporation, operations at both mills have been deferred until further notice due to inadequate readiness among harvesting gangs. The crushing season had originally been scheduled to commence at Rarawai Mill on June 16, followed by Labasa Mill on June 17. FSC said an assessment of current preparations found that the required number of harvesting gangs had not yet reached operational readiness needed to ensure smooth and efficient milling activities. The Corporation said the postponement was aimed at avoiding operational disruptions and creating conditions for a more successful crushing season once harvesting arrangements are fully in place. FSC assured cane growers, harvesting groups, transport operators and other stakeholders that revised commencement dates would be announced after the required number of harvesting gangs confirm their readiness. The Corporation also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and thanked stakeholders for their patience and cooperation as preparations continue for the launch of the 2026 season.
