When computing power meets geological reality. Automation and high performance computing are helping bp unlock more energy, sooner. Using the Asset and Well Trajectory Optimiser (AWTO), geoscientists and engineers can design complex well paths in a fraction of the time it once took. In Azerbaijan, a challenging drill path that could have taken up to two months to plan was completed in days. The technology rapidly analyses thousands of possible trajectories, factoring in subsurface conditions, safety risk-management considerations and drilling constraints to identify the most effective route to the reservoir - before a drill ever moves. Now being applied in the Gulf of America and Egypt, with aims for global rollout, it’s a clear example of advanced computing and engineering expertise turning complex subsurface challenges into practical results - safely and at scale.
