“Culture becomes truly meaningful when it crosses borders, disciplines and perspectives.” - Christophe Slagmuylder For more than fifteen years, Bozar has developed European collaborations that connect artists, institutions, researchers and audiences across borders. Through projects, networks, EU Council Presidencies and the European Recovery and Resilience Plan, these partnerships have become a driving force behind the institution’s artistic and societal engagement. From sustainability and mental wellbeing to digital transformation, food systems and social cohesion, European collaborations allow Bozar to support artistic creation while addressing some of the most pressing challenges shaping our societies today. Projects such as PIT, Studiotopia, CARE, Halaqat and Beautifood demonstrate how art can foster dialogue, experimentation and resilience — locally and internationally. They also contribute to the long-term transformation of the institution itself, influencing both programming and operational practices. As Christophe Slagmuylder notes in the interview, these collaborations are never an end in themselves. They create lasting partnerships, strengthen cultural cooperation across Europe, and reaffirm the role of culture as a space for exchange, reflection and shared futures.
