Our Thyroid Center recently collaborated on two major projects. In the first, Ari Wassner, MD, the Center’s medical director, and others determined that preterm infants and those with congenital heart disease are at highest risk for hypothyroidism related to the use of intravenous iodinated contrast media. The Center also took part in a large multicenter trial that found that differentiated thyroid carcinoma is more likely to occur in boys under age 10 whose tumors are driven by oncogenic fusions.
