There's something powerful about a room willing to talk openly about what's often left unsaid. On Sunday, BMC Health System hosted a screening of "Me Period," a real and raw documentary produced by the Black Women's Health Imperative that explores puberty, menstruation, and motherhood through heartfelt intergenerational conversations. The event, which took place at WBUR CitySpace also brought together voices that don't typically share the same stage -- a film producer, a gynecologist, and a professional soccer player -- each offering honest, personal reflections on how periods shape their lives, their work, and their sense of self. Our thanks to this powerhouse panel led by BMC's Trina Martin Cherry, featuring Lisa Cunningham, director of Me Period; Laís Araújo, professional soccer player for Boston Legacy FC; and Dr. Nyia Noel, BMC gynecologist. Spanning generations, this group of 105 showed up with openness, empathy, and curiosity. Children and "tweens" asked thoughtful, confident follow-up questions that reflected a new kind of comfort and courage around an important conversation.
