While medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD), like buprenorphine, are known to reduce overdose deaths for individuals, new BMC research suggests that higher buprenorphine use is also associated with fewer overdose deaths at the community level. Using data from the HEALing Communities Study across four states, the findings also underscore an ongoing challenge: even with significant effort, increasing MOUD use at scale is challenging. The results point to the importance of continuing to explore new and more effective ways to expand access to evidence-based treatment and support healthier communities: https://bit.ly/4otj9Ku
