“I think people assume medicine is cut and dry….There is so much creativity in how we care for patients.” For third-year medical student Aurore Zhang, creativity isn’t separate from medicine—it’s foundational to it. Zhang helped revive Whorl, a student-led arts journal at Boston University School of Medicine, creating space for future physicians to engage with creativity as part of their training. Her perspective reflects a broader truth: The arts help shape clinicians who can think more deeply, communicate more effectively, and connect more meaningfully with patients, improving outcomes.
