One of the most unexpected and meaningful moments from my graduation came when my professor and Program Director, David Lieberman, introduced me on stage as “The world’s biggest Michael Jackson fan.” It genuinely caught me off guard, and I’m incredibly grateful for the kindness and thought behind that gesture. What made the moment even more surreal was graduating in the same year as the release of the Michael Jackson biopic, while our commencement ceremony itself featured an MJ song. As someone whose earliest understanding of America came through Michael Jackson’s music, performances, and cultural impact, moving to New York City for my Master’s and experiencing moments like this feels very full circle. Thankful to everyone at The New School who made this journey memorable. 🎓✨
