Studying emerging pathogens in cats can tell us a lot about infectious diseases – if we know where to look. Giulia Donato's research is helping us do exactly that. Her work has identified key risk factors for infection and revealed how some pathogens can contribute to chronic health conditions. She also showed that cats can carry and shed zoonotic pathogens such as Leptospira, helping us better understand infection risks for other animals and people. That’s why, together with the European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases (ABCD), we recognize Giulia with the 2026 Young Scientist Award. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition and your contribution to advancing feline health. #LifeForward
