In January, 1992, Dewi Sukarno, the former First Lady of Indonesia and an international socialite, found herself facing second-degree assault charges for allegedly slashing the cheek of a longtime social rival with a champagne glass at a jet-set soiree in Aspen, an injury that would require 37 stitches to repair. Sukarno was looking at a potential fine of $500,000 and up to 16 years in a Colorado state prison. Sukarno’s attorney, Barry Slotnick, already well known for representing John Gotti, General Manuel Noriega and subway gunman Berhard Goetz, hired Morty Matz to handle her public relations. Morty then assigned the new client to a staffer. That staffer turned out to be me. Tune in for more tomorrow.
