I thought supply chains were about efficiency, planning and cost control. Today, I see them as one of the most strategic parts of a business. Looking back on the past five years in this industry, three shifts stand out to me the most. The first is how supply chains evolved from operational to strategic. It’s no longer just logistics. Today, supply chain decisions directly influence growth, customer experience, scalability and risk management. The role of supply chain has fundamentally changed inside modern businesses. The second shift is digitalisation. We moved from Excel sheets and reactive planning to real-time visibility, automation and predictive insights. Data is no longer a support tool. It’s the foundation for faster and smarter decision-making. And the third change is the rise of sustainability and circularity. Reverse logistics and end-of-life processes were often treated as side topics. Today, they’re becoming a core part of value creation. Supply chains no longer stop after delivery. The companies creating the most value are the ones extending product lifecycles through refurbishment, reuse and smarter reverse logistics. One thing these five years have taught me: Supply chains never stand still. The real question is how fast you’re willing to move with them.
