𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗲 is not only a treatment challenge. It is also a trust challenge. For direct potable reuse to gain wider acceptance, operators need to demonstrate that water quality is not only treated to a high standard, but also 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆. Traditional microbiological methods remain important, but when results take 24 to 72 hours, they can leave operators reacting after the fact. Digital microbiology changes that by bringing microbial data much closer to real-time operation.
