Proud to share a new step forward in offshore charging with Bluewater’s Electric Loading Tower (ELT). We developed a bottom-fixed offshore charging solution that allows electric and hybrid vessels to safely charge while remaining connected to the ELT. Vessels can weathervane naturally, reducing energy use while keeping operations stable and controlled. As part of the European MAGPIE project (Demo 5), we tested the concept through simulation together with Van Oord and MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) at MARIN’s Large Motion Simulator. Experienced marine crew operated a Service Operation Vessel through realistic mooring, connect and disconnect cycles, under North Sea weather conditions. The results confirmed that the ELT concept is well suited for shallow-water offshore environments – a key requirement for offshore wind operations. We were also pleased to welcome a broad group of industry stakeholders on site, including representatives from classification societies, offshore operators and port authorities. A short clip from the simulation is below. Full video: https://lnkd.in/efniTyVT The ELT concept is currently showcased at the MAGPIE exhibition at Portlantis, where it can be explored as a scaled model with augmented reality. 📍 The MAGPIE Exhibition is open at Portlantis (Maasvlakte 2) until September 2026 – don’t miss the opportunity to experience the ELT concept in real life. In collaboration with MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), Port of Rotterdam, Van Oord and MAGPIE. This MAGPIE project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 (MFF 2014-2020) research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement 101036594. #MAGPIE #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #Electrification #Maritime #Offshore #SustainableShipping #PortOfRotterdam #MaritimeInnovation
