✍️ We have a new publication! We're thrilled to have an article on our project published in RIO Journal. 🌊 Nature serves as the primary source for valuable compounds that get integrated into new pharmaceutical products. The ocean is home to more than 200,000 species of marine invertebrates who hold precisely this power. But wild harvesting is not an option: we cannot afford to permanently damage our ecosystems to obtain these valuable compounds. For decades now, scientists have been trying and failing to develop alternative supply options, for example through in vitro culturing of marine invertebrates. And here's where BLUES comes into play: our research team seeks to expand the potential to produce unique bioactive compounds from marine invertebrates by developing novel in vitro cell culture systems for four phyla, therefore solving the supply bottleneck for these compounds, but also producing sustainable alternatives that fit into the circular economy.
