This is the second time the Carolina Hurricanes have found their way into our “Tweet of the Week” by capitalizing on yet another incredible marketing opportunity. In a recent game between Toronto and Carolina, 42-year-old emergency backup goaltender David Ayers was forced into action for the Canes, backstopping the team to a 6-3 victory. Ayers, very much your average guy in most senses of the term, followed up his storybook win with a full media tour that culminated with an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”. The organization brought Ayers to the first home game following the win to sound the siren inside the area prior to puck drop and began selling David Ayers jerseys to commemorate the historic victory. This was a genius move by the Hurricanes who have continued to play off a passionate fanbase that has been no stranger to headlines across the hockey world in the last year and a half. These moves have undoubtedly shown this nontraditional hockey franchise’s savvy for selling itself to its audience!
