Today, fewer than 4% of PhD candidates in CS-related fields are people of African descent. Emerging Leaders in AI (ELAI) program exists to help expand access, mentorship, and opportunity for the next generation of AI researchers. Applications are now open for the 2026 Emerging Leaders in AI (ELAI) program by Black in AI. The program supports aspiring AI professionals through:  • mentorship  • graduate application preparation  • mock interviews  • application reviews  • community support Participants have gone on to fully funded programs at Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, Cornell, and more.
