Today, we honor Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, freedom finally reached Galveston, Texas, more than two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This day invites us to reflect on the resilience, achievements, and lasting contributions of the African American community, while recognizing the significance of this milestone in our nation’s history.
